5th of January - begining of Winter Sales

The 5th of January begins so long-awaited by many Italians time of the year - Winter Sales, that will last till the end of February, and even till the end of March in some regions.
Season sales can seem to us a recent invention, but actually they have a history of almost one century. The first sales were organized in 1928 by New York City Macy's Store, in order to prevent negative consequences of the recent sales slump.

In Italy the first to follow American experience was the chain of stores UPIM (abbreviation for: Unico Prezzo Italiano Milano - Single Italian Price Milan - the chain of stores created in 1928, where at the beginning were sold a great variaty of goods at single price - from 1 to 5 lira).
Nowadays in Italy the best way to shop in a grate number of best brand shops in the shortest time and to buy all the desired things at the best price is to visit an Outlet Village. Shopping in an Outlet Village can be pleasantly combined with a Food&Wine Tour.
